Water Blessings: What we learned from a traditional Balinese ceremony
On this beautiful island of Bali that we feel lucky to call home, the elements are considered deeply sacred.
Water is not only essential to life, but the element which nourishes and purifies us. It doesn’t just cleanse on a physical level, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. So when Hitomi visited us during the creation of the MUSE Collection, we joined a sacred Melukat ceremony– an ancient Balinese water blessing for renewal and purification.
Think of it as a form of spiritual maintenance used to restore inner harmony.
The ritual began with offerings of flowers and incense, placed carefully to honor the deities and spirits of the island. Then we began the purification, with the priest blessing the water and sprinkling it on our heads. We drank it, bathed in it, and most importantly, we felt deeply connected to it.
Participating in this ritual reminded us of the power of water, and the importance of releasing heaviness and finding clarity whenever we can.
Even at home, we can create simple moments of purification. Here are a few rituals we’ve been trying for ourselves.
SHOWER MEDITATION
As you shower, visualise the water carrying away stress, heaviness, and stagnant energy. Breath deeply and imagine clarify flowing in.
OCEAN OR RIVER RELEASE
If available to you, stand at the shoreline or riverbank. Imagine offering your worries to the water, allowing it to carry them away.
SIP WITH INTENTION
Before drinking water, pause and silently set a loving intention "may this water cleanse and nourish me" Drink slowly and mindfully.
Water has always been a source of renewal.
Wherever you are, let this be a reminder to pause, release, and to return to yourself.
