Honouring Your Moon Time with Sophia Esperanza

Every few weeks, we are reminded to slow down.

Our bleed, moon, period, flow… the menstrual phase demands our attention.

Our muse @sophiaesperanza shared some tools with us that she uses to support herself during this special time 🌙

THE MENSTRUATION PHASE

"We are often hypersensitive during this moment of the month. In our emotions, intuition and sensations (especially touch). The pace of the mainstream world, corporate workforce and modern lifestyle can often hinder creating a supportive space for this powerful time in a girls/woman's month. I dream and envision a day where all ladies can be held during their bleeds and imagine a world with new paradigms that consider the very event that supports bringing life to this world… a period.

I know for many of us, this time can be painful. Conditions like PCOS and endometriosis are increasingly common. If you’re here on Indigo Luna’s page, you’re probably enthralled in the world of things that are simply more natural. Good thing is… we have the ability to improve our overall health and wellbeing by doing things like wearing non-toxic clothing and lightening our exposure to harmful chemicals. Wearing natural garments is a beautiful way to cloak the body in health and give us a better chance of self healing, rebalancing, taking the ‘foot off the gas’ and so much more."

Dark Chocolate

There’s a reason we love it so much, especially this time of month. Amongst other benefits, dark chocolate has a good amount of magnesium – which has been shown to relax muscles and reduce inflammation. I like to melt some on top of dehydrated grapefruit for a bitter sweet punch.

GENTLE MOVEMENT

Intentional movements can target areas that could use some loving/pain relief. These movements help me.

Cat & Cow for back + abdominal muscles.
Swaying Frog for inner thigh + hips.
Modified Child’s Pose with a pillow for back.
Reclined Twists for lower back + belly.
Legs up the Wall for easing tension + promoting circulation.

HERBAL TEAS

Herbs and plants are powerful. The original medicine.

For my bleed I love blends of Cramp Bark, Chamomile, Peppermint, Nettle, Raspberry Leaf, Calendula, Cinnamon. Blends like this ease muscle cramping and bring my body ease / calm.

Humming

Humming stimulates the vagus nerve, which can help bring calm and ease to the body. It can help to lower blood pressure, reduce stress and anxiety, and so much more. Humming is powerful and it’s been such an effective pain/anxiety tool for me.

Mindful Hairdo’s

Hairdo’s that are gentle and soft on the scalp. Styles that are loose and don’t pull, cause tension, or create headaches when my body is hyper sensitive.

Flowy + Cozy Organic Clothing

From the textile material…to the fit of clothing…what we wear on our bleeds can have an impact on their ‘severity’. Tight/constricting clothing can actually worsen cramping by putting pressure on tender muscles. I love indigo Luna’s Flow Set made from 100% Organic Clothing that is GOTS-certified. This gentle design allows for breathability (for all those temperature fluctuations), has an elastic waistband to support the belly/tender areas and drapes in a comforting way around the body. Is this why they call it the Flow Set? I think i’m just realizing, if so (:

CALMING PLAYLIST

Music and vibration impacts our mood, heart rate and frequency. I added a calming playlist from Spotify that gets me into a relaxed state, where I am brought to deeper levels of creativity…reflection…ponder…wonder…ease.

I hope this supports your moon.

Love, Sophia xx
